The headwind was very annoying to canoe into. If you aren’t very good at steering the canoe, any time the wind catches you a little on the side it will immediately turn your canoe sideways. Many of the Scout’s canoes would go back and forth from one side of the river to the other as they tried to steer straight into the wind.
