Meanwhile out on the road the slow group hits the area with some road construction. There were no lines painted, which worried us a bit, but thankfully the shoulders were plenty wide enough.

This route was still FAR better than the one Google Maps suggested for us. That one would have been 20+ miles of windy, hilly gravel roads. Google's algorithm must prioritize roads with less traff. Luckily Ted and Klaus had went out and scouted the roads the evening before and rejected that one completely.
